Addison Cain is an amazing member of the author community, a wonderful friend, and for the last year she’s been harassed repeatedly, but she’s stayed silent about it. But now, we’re going to #GetLoud with her!
She’s already dealt with extensive legal fees trying to defend herself against nuisance lawsuits brought by Zoey Ellis and Quill Ink Books, and her fight isn’t over. But her fight is also YOURS! As a fellow author, or a reader who loves to read the books written by authors around the world, imagine for a moment the horror of receiving a lawsuit because your publisher rightfully filed a DMCA. Imagine how scary it would be to have to hire an attorney to defend yourself out of state, just because someone else plagiarized your work. Can you imagine the emotional distress? The impact on your work? The financial burden? Addison has already lost tens of thousands of dollars to this fight for both her reputation and her work.
As a community, we cannot allow one bad player to change the rules of the game. We have to stand together against the idea that one author can bully and manipulate another author over DMCAs sent by their publisher.
