My name is Jeffrey Serrano, son in law of Angela “Mama Ela” Gonzales. My mama Ela is a 69 year old mother of 5. She has been known as the Mama Ela of everybody who is very loving and very generous in all ways she can. She has helped a lot of people who has been very dependent to her.
On April 2017, she was diagnosed with Stage 4 lung cancer. She continued with her normal life despite what was diagnosed along with the necessary treatments. After a year of battling with cancer, CT scans and tests result affirms a very sad news - the cancer is becoming aggressive and unresponsive to her treatment. Worse, it had metastasized and spread to her liver and possibly on her brain. Further, her Brain CT scan results reveals that she also has Microvascular disease and Atherosclerotic vessel disease. We tried alternative medicines and did infusion treatments but she’s still becoming weaker everyday. Currently she is in ICU receiving medical help to alleviate her symptoms. Mama Ela is now undergoing a series of tests, she has just went through a brain MRI procedure and is now scheduled to have a lumbar puncture. She will need to undergo a second round of chemotherapy medication to treat her cancer. She is in total distress everyday. But she still continue to fight for us, her family and friends…
Unfortunately, the cost of treatment is shouldered by the family as she has no insurance. Their dad is not able to help too as he himself is sick. He has Parkinson’s disease. The whole family is drained on financial resources and mounting medical and household expenses as they have exhausted all their means in that more than a year of chemotherapy medication and hospitalization. One cycle of chemotherapy medication cost about $40,000 excluding hospitalization and medical tests expenses. We are knocking and extending our plea to everyone who knows my Mama Ela of whom has touched lives one way or another… We hope you can latch on and join the picture of helping our Mama Ela fight the cancer.
