Can you help me surprise a graduating senior with a generous gift to help him with his transition to college?
Since 2015, I have helped a young widowed mother who immigrated from Afghanistan to the United States. She brought her two pre-teen children in search of a better life. They had the opportunity because this Afghan mother worked at the U.S. Embassy during the Iran/Iraq war and had the opportunity to apply for a green card.
I'm sorry but I can't share the names or photo of this family because they were fleeing violence in Afghanistan.
On June 15, the first of this woman’s two children will be graduating from high school (TC Williams). This young man has been accepted to George Mason University and will joining the mechanical engineering program.
This family has had to work extremely hard to get to this place. The mother works 2 sometimes 3 jobs and often is working 60-hour weeks to support her two children. The older of the two children in addition to going to school and earning a nearly 4.0 GPA works at CVS 20+ hours/week.
When the acceptance from GMU came in, we are all overjoyed. This was truly the dream they had hoped for.
After watching this family work hard for over 4 years, I to send him off to college with proper support to help him with his needs as he makes this important transition to college. He will be living with his mother but he will have expenses including paying for some of the tuition (most of the tuition is covered but not all of it), books, fees, and perhaps a computer.
Can you help me help them create a great start for this amazing young man? Let's send a message there is a community of people out there who will truly support a Muslim family who has done nothing but good while they have lived in this country.
