Help a Veteran fight stage 4 cancer

Donation protected
My name is Nick Politz and I just turned 40.  I am a son, husband, father and patriot.  I am an USN veteran first and a Marine Corps veteran second.  I served my USN enlistment attached to Strike Fighter Squadron 94 "The Mighty Shrikes" Call sign HOBO, based out of NAS Lemoore, CA.  I served two deployments on the USS Carl Vinson CVN-70. My first deployment was in support of Operation Southern Watch and Operation Desert Fox.  My second deployment was in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and the Global War on Terrorism right after the twin towers fell on 9/11/01. The squadrons started bombing runs into Afghanistan in October 2001 and did so for 110 days straight until we were relieved by another battle group.  After I was honorably discharged from the Navy, I felt a duty and calling to fight the ground war in support of the Global War on Terrorism.  I joined the Marine Corps Reserve for six years as an 0311 rifleman.  I was attached to 1st Battalion 23rd Marines, Bravo Company, the "Battlin' Bastards".  My unit was activated to go to Iraq as I finished up my basic training (Parris Island) and SOI (School of Infantry).  I was deployed to Iraq in 2004-05 in support of the Global War on Terrorism and Operation Iraqi Freedom II. In November 2004, I participated in Operation Phantom Fury which was the 2nd battle to take the city of Fallujah and the bloodiest battle of the Iraq war. I was awarded the CAR (combat action ribbon) for actively participating in ground combat, during this deployment. Some of the other places I've trained include 29 Palms CA, the Dutch Caribbean, Africa, Quantico VA, and the Marine Corps Mountain Warfare Training Center.

Now to my current story.  I started to experience some rectal bleeding and complications this past summer.  Being a hard head, I put off these symptoms until late November and had a colonoscopy.  After the colonoscopy, the Dr confirmed via biopsy that I have colorectal cancer.  This was hard news to swallow, but it can be cured with chemo/radiation and surgery.  Well, this is where things went from bad to worse.  Once I had my MRI/CT Scan performed I found out that the cancer has spread to my liver.  My liver is oversized because I have multiple masses in both my left and right lobes.  Unfortunately with this new information it means I have Stage 4, Metastatic cancer. The cancer is not curable, but it is treatable right now.  Because there were so many masses in my liver, surgery is out of the question.  I can't have a  liver transplant  due to fact that I am too high risk of the cancer coming back.  The only course of action is to attack this cancer with chemotherapy.

Now to my plan of action and why I am raising funds.  I had my chemo port installed today and my first chemo treatment is scheduled for January 2, 2019. I will do 6 months of chemo and then I will need a new set of scans to see if the chemo made the masses shrink.  We will reassess after 6 treatments.  Financially speaking, these chemo treatments are quite expensive ($72,000 for 12 treatments before insurance).  Unfortunately, come January 1st my insurance deductible and out of pockets maximums start over.  As of this date December 26, 2018, I am looking at $10,000 out of pocket and about $3,000 a month for chemotherapy treatments starting in January 2019.  This doesn't include the scans and surgery that I've already had.  This figure will go up come the 1st of January and this is only for the first six months of treatments.

These funds will be used as soon as my bills from the scans and procedures come in.  I am the only one in my household that works full time. The cancer treatments will interfere with the the amount of time I am able to work.  I have my wife Beth,  my children, Christian and Sophia, that I am responsible for.  If I, with your help can raise these funds, it will take a huge financial load off of me and will greatly help me and my family.  I want to be honest and transparent with you guys.  This is a life altering diagnosis for me and my family.  The cards are really stacked against me once the cancer spread to my liver and survival rates aren't high.  I have to be honest with myself and realize that this isn't curable only treatable.  I'm on borrowed time and I pray that I can get this cancer into remission so that I can have more time with my family. So, I am doing something that I never thought I would do in 1000 years,  asking friends and family for help.  Marines are proud, strong and fierce Devil Dogs.  All they need are their brothers/sisters and to be told what and where to attack.  Mission was always first, troop welfare second.  Well, this is my new mission and I need everyones support and help on this one. This is for the fight of my life.  Please help me fight cancer and accomplish my new mission.  Share this post with all your friends and family.  I need to try and touch as many lives as I can. Thank you for taking time to read my story and God bless.
