Help a mother & son reunite

As a person sometimes you can only do what you can do, but as a parent you will do whatever is necessary for your child. 

What’s necessary for me to do right now is swallow my pride, humble myself and ask for the help I need,  because I must do what’s necessary to have my baby in my arms again.

I am Monique, mother of 1 amazing little boy. Nicholas is 9 years old and currently resides with his father in Chicago Illinois.

In 2016, Nicholas’s father and I made an agreement that we no longer wanted to raise our son in America, we have decided to be proactive in changing his environment so that his current reality won’t be his only reality.

We all know that America as a whole is in bad shape from extreme racism, hate crimes, gun violence, kids shooting schools, gangs, unbalanced/unfair systems, cost of quality education, cost of healthcare. 

For us, as his parents enough was enough. So after much consideration and support from his father. I planted a seed in the International job pool, and over the past year I have watched my efforts grow. Now its harvest time and time for Nicholas to return back with his mommy. Problem is I am unable to afford this flight on my own.

Summer time when flying means that flights are at an all time high, as I write this post I’m not even sure what I will need exactly as the prices change daily. What I do know is that..

a.)International accompanied minor flights can not be booked online, only via phone. At the time of reservation I need to be in a position to pay in full to complete the booking.

b.) Nicholas will have to fly on a direct flight from Chicago to Barcelona. Unaccompanied minors are unable to fly on flights with connections.

c.) The fee associated to accompany Nicholas to Barcelona is between 50-200€ each way.


d.) Depending on the dates, It may be slightly cheaper for him to fly into Madrid vs. Barcelona. I would then take a train to meet him & back.

e.)The prices of flights change daily, the longer the wait the more expensive.

I have also considered International buddy passes or asking for donated flight miles. As of today via American Airlines if Nicholas were to leave Chicago on July 2nd. The flight would be $2,549.

I have stressed and cried and pondered about this for weeks. The reality is it is not feasible for me to do on my own. Combined with what i have, I  decided to ask for help and if you know me, you know this is not easy for me. If you can find it in your heart...It would mean everything to myself and my family to have your support of reuniting a mother and son.
