Help a Firefighter with Cancer

A longtime fire responder with the Mat-Su Borough Fire Service and the Alaska State Division of Forestry has recently been diagnosed with Stage-4 Bile Duct cancer.
Lori Wiertsema began her career as a firefighter in Huachuca City Arizona in 1990. After moving to Alaska, she joined the MSB Fire Service in December 1992 as a responder with Central Mat-Su Fire Department at Station 62 . In July 1994 Lori moved to Willow and became a responder with Willow Fire Department where she moved up the ranks from firefighter to lieutenant to captain and in July 2000 she became the Fire Chief of the Willow Fire Department.
While working as a responder for the Mat-Su Borough Lori broadened her firefighting knowledge and skills by joining the State of Alaska Division of Forestry (DOF) as a seasonal emergency firefighter (EFF). In March of 2002 Lori was promoted to Forestry Technician II and in October 2003 she became a Forestry Technician III. Presently, she continues her employment with DOF.
Not only does Lori protect her own community as well as other people’s communities, she is also a wife, a mother of three, and a grandmother or four active grandchildren. Her daughter Kayla Eley, who's the designated beneficiary of this account, has been caring for her part time which requires her to fly to Arizona every couple of weeks.
Asking for help is not easy for people who work in the field of helping others but, Lori and her family are definitely going to need help during the fight of/for her life which will take everything they've got mentally, physically and financially.
