Help Dave open his shop in Tanzania

Dave is a Tanzanian (33) and is the breadwinner of his family, with 3 kids of his own, his two younger brothers and his wife and her sister. No one in his family is formally employed. He works night and day as a guard in our house compound with the help of his two brothers. He doesn’t receive a monthly salary, however, gets a contribution by the families living in the compound. This way he earns about 6 euros a day, with which he has to sustain his 8-persons family.

He is a very kind, authentic and generous person. What I admire about him is that he always puts his family first and dedicates all his time to his job and family.

Dave usually works both day and night, sleeping on average 4 hours a day. With this business he will be able to quit his job in 6 months to 1 year time and lead a healthier life.

The business

Dave has done research in the various local markets and found out that a business generating a stable income is beans and cereals retail shop.

We worked together on a business plan and the required start-up capital amounts to TZS 4,300,000, which is about €1,700. This includes the business license, 6-month rent, shop furniture and equipment (a table and a measuring scale) and the first rice and beans.  

I connected Dave with some of our partners and friends, so they can support him in case he has questions or challenges. Also, he will be enrolled in a business training, which will give him more insights into accounting, bookkeeping, business planning, marketing and saving.
