Help 76 yr old Maggie get to Cambridge University

Donation protected
Pensioner who left school at 14 accepted to study at Cambridge University

The education system failed Maggie in the 1950s and she left school as soon as she was legally able to, at the age of 14 years and nine months.

Today, more than 60 years later, she has discovered a passion for learning and study. Her marks at the University of Wollongong have been high enough for her to be accepted to attend a two-week program at UK’s prestigious Cambridge University in July studying ancient civilisations.

At 76 years young, Maggie is in her third year of a Bachelor of Arts degree, majoring in Sociology and History.

Since Maggie left school, she has had more than 60 jobs, ranging from a stint at nursing in her teens to Director of the Northern Territory Government’s Office of Arts & Cultural Affairs in her 40's. She is also a self-published author of the book, "Getting Older, Getting Better".

An accomplished public speaker, a 'Distinguished Toastmaster', Maggie is an inspiration to her two daughters and four grandchildren and is well known at UOW as the old chick who regularly changes her hair colour.

Maggie has successfully applied for a student loan towards her Cambridge study trip, but as she is solely reliant on the Aged Pension, she is hoping for donations to help cover the shortfall to enable visits to some ancient Roman ruins in the UK to complement her Cambridge studies.

All donations would be acknowledged in Maggie’s PhD thesis, in any future books and at any public lectures or talks.
