HELDIN: Music-Theater Project
It's time to get real about the role of feminism in the 21st Century.
We find ourselves at a critical moment in history. The world of Trump, traditional white male oligarchs and Harvey Weinstein is beginning to crumble. Power structures are starting to crack, and the wave is coming. Hard.
Therefore, I think it's high time we redefine what it means to be female in this age; to reclaim the narrative of our experience, our inner world, and explore what it truly means to make space for the essence of femininity as a force in the world.
To this end, I am proud to introduce my latest project :
HELDIN is a multi-part, hybrid classical music concept, weaving classical art song, chamber music, dance, and narration to tell the stories of female experience. The first installment, Heldin I, is based on the music of Richard Strauss and loosely inspired by Schumann's great song cycle Frauenliebe und Leben, tracing the arc of inner female experience from youth through old age. Heldin I explores the themes of ageism, beauty, youth and love from an intimate and uniquely female point of view. The piece includes Strauss' Violin Sonata, a carefully chosen selection of Strauss' Lieder, and readings of correspondence between Richard and his wife Pauline de Ahna.
Help us bring HELDIN to life. All funds will directly support the November 6-11 workshop/residency of Heldin I . Future plans include a short run ( 4 performances) slated for March 2019 in Berlin.
Rehearsal space rental (500E)
Artist stipend for 5 artists ( 2500E)
Transportation for artists involved (1000E)
Residency expenses (lodging, food) (500E)
Media (Photo and Video) (750E)
It is critical, now more than ever, that women take up the mantle of creative and artistic leadership. We need to crack open the truth of our experiences; express our essence from OUR point of view. We cannot rely on the universe to "Auto-correct".
And this is why Heldin I deserves your support. This piece has the potential to help open hearts and minds in new ways to the core of femininity; to change perspectives and see femininity for it's strength, beauty and wonder.
We will be both grateful for your support and steadfast in our mission to change the ways we think about femininity, feminism, and what it means to be a woman in this remarkable time.
