34809994_1543091478798348_r.jpegUPDATED: June 24, 2019. This is  Hedda.  She needs a new heart.  Hedda has end stage Congestive Heart Failure induced by a 2005 chemotherapy regime for aggressive breast cancer. The chemo damaged her heart beyond repair causing Doxorubicin Cardiomyopathy. Her heart is too weak to pump enough blood. After many different heart treatments, in mid-2016, Hedda's life changed for the worse when she was unable to work anymore and became dependent on Social Security Disability Income, which pays a meager $1367 per month. After many medications and treatments, it was decided that Hedda’s ♥️ could no longer manage on its own.   After being required to fund raise $10,000 for a heart transplant listing, with your help had a not only MET but exceeded that initial goal.   On December 3rd, a mechanical/electrical LVAD - Left Ventricular Assist Device was implanted as a bridge-to-transplant.  The success of that goal was because of all of you.  Hedda is a young, 61, and has at least 30 more years of life in her...if she can get a gifted ♥️.  She was an active dog walker and pet sitter locally, and misses her business, Urban Tails.

Hedda's heart deteriorated to a life threatening condition back in September 25, 2018.  On November 16, 2018  she was admitted to the hospital and given the $10,000 fundraising goal before she could be listed for a ♥️.  This money will be set aside and it’s a guarantee of being able to afford anti-rejection meds for a couple years. As you know we exceeded our goal.  On December 3, 2018 Hedda had open heart surgery and was implanted with the LVAD (left ventricular assist device).  This will help had us part palm while she waits for a gifted heart.   The increased funding goal will help Hedda medically  thru post LVAD implantation and the pre-and post heart transplant.  Even with Medicare, there are many out-of-pocket costs. We, Hedda's Care Team - Alexander, Sarah, and Darcy, are asking for anything you may be able to afford. We need to keep Hedda on the heart transplant list. The current out of pocket costs are hundreds of $$ while awaiting her gift of a new heart. Please help if you can. Your donation is a life-saving donation.

Hedda was discharged home on December 18, however she has had to return several times to the Emergency Department for re-admission and observation due to VAD low-flow alarms. Much of which are due to finding the right LVAD adjustments and proper hydration.

Hedda attendance cardio rehab classes twice a week to strengthen her muscles and increase stamina.   The stronger it had a will be going into heart transplant surgery, the quicker she will recover.

When a ♥️ becomes available, Hedda will be ready and will persist.

Love to you all.

Hi everybody and thank you for the well wishes. I am feeling better. My team things it was one of my medicine is causing the swelling. My legs and feet are better but not yet normal. My kidney function is a little low and also, for the cherry on top, I have a bit of anemia. I did get an iron infusion last week and I will be getting another next week. This should give me some energy. I want to thank all of you again for your emotional support and your encouragement to hang in there. As you know a couple of months ago I was struggling and frantic to raise $10,000 before I could be listed for a heart transplant. And as you know because of all of you I not only made but exceeded that 10,000. I’d like to give you a little update on that. That 10,000+ some extra has been set aside in a special account that cannot be touched until I have my heart transplant. Whether that is in a couple of months or a couple of years. With the balance a special checking account has been set up for my ongoing battle costs which are running several hundred dollars out of pocket, MONTHLY. Yes you heard correctly. My income being social security disability of $1367 a month, My out-of-pocket medical costs run anywhere from $300 to $500 a month. And yes, I am covered by Medicare. That’s $300-$500 a month are my co-pays for office visits, co-pays for laboratory work, co-pays for heart testing, co-pays for cardio rehab clinic. I have already reached my max out-of-pocket for 2019 of $4500. I could not be doing any of this, surviving long enough to get a heart, had it not been for your generosity. Many of you I know. Many more of you I have never even met. Once again the generosity has been overwhelming. I know without your help I would’ve died last year without some type of intervention. I only wish I could meet each and everyone of you. Please stay posted for updates. Also my high school friends and I have been going through old photos and I would like to share one with you. I am hoping my eyes in this photo can show your gratitude and love.

Sadly I’m back in the ER. Horrible swelling, hot prickly legs. Diuretics don’t help. I get scared that I will be stuck here. Maybe a reaction to new meds?

Two doctor appointments today. Lots of running. My kidney function is low a bit. Must have some labs re-checked. Hydrate, hydrate. Also my Norvasc was increased to lower my blood pressure. It worked, however the side effect of swollen ankles, legs, flushed legs and feet is annoying. Really tired today.

Great news. As of this morning, I have been medically cleared and fully activated on the heart transplant list. I could get my call and minute, any hour, and day...logically everyone usually has to wait a bit, be it months or even years. Realistically, it could be anytime that a perfect match is made. I am humbled by this waiting experience. I feel ready. I feel strong. I am grateful to all of you. This would not be happening today had it not been for your generosity and kindness. Your encouragement. Your voices. Your love. I am still faced with the reality of insurance not covering all of my medical expenses. Depending on how long the wait for a gifted heat, this could become very expensive. That is why, at the advice of a financial guru (friend), I have increased my goal. This will keep my campaign activated. It will allow people to donate over time. It will allow me to keep each of you updated on my progress and my future. I love you all. Hang in there with me.
