Help the Crew of the Hecate Spray

Donation protected
Update May 12:  A big thank you to those who have donated.  The money went to hotel rooms until they could find other arrangements.  The trailer option is not viable and their immediate medication/food needs have been met.  Many people donated clothes, which was much appreciated.  The dog is in a great foster home and the humane society donated food, toys and a crate--thank you!!!  The red cross is helping them restore their IDs so things are looking up.  I am going to end this campaign.  Again, thank you for the donations.  One of the captains has indicated that once she gets on her feet she is going to make a donation to the Pacifica Resource Center and she appreciates all of the help from the good-hearted poeple of Pacifica.

Update May 4:
Good news today.  The salvage company is responsible for the removal of the boat.  I had originally set the target high in case the crew were responsible for those costs. I have adjusted the campaign total to $15K.

They are looking for housing and jobs.  The insurance will cover the boat, but it will take awhile to get the funds.  The San Francisco Bay Area is very expensive, even for short term lodging.  The money raised will go to their immediate needs:

Hotel until housing arrangements are secured for 4:  $2500
Board and care of dog:  $1500
Food and medication:  $1000
Camping trailer to live in:  $8000
Transportation:  $500
Bedding/cookware/towels/etc.:  $1000

Update May 2:  Unfortunately things took a turn for the worse today. When the tow company tried to tow the boat to the repairs, the boat sank. The crew was not allowed to get their things from the boat. They need your help more than ever now. Thank you for donating, please share this gofundme with your social media and friends. Thank you. http://abc7news.com/boat-sinks-after-crews-try-to-salvage-it-near-pacifica-beach/3420019/
We are still in process of planning their next steps. I'll be touch with more information.

The Story:  The crew of the Hecate Spray left the South San Francisco Marina on April 27th 2018 heading for San Diego.  They experienced engine trouble and were pushed towards shore.  They spent hours trying to get the engine running and fighting the wind and current when they ran aground at Linda Mar Beach in Pacifica, CA.  As the boat was tossed in the surf and currents, water came over both sides of the boat and the boat filled with water.  They escaped in the surf with help from a good Samaritan.  Everything they owned was on the boat.  The boat needs to be towed to Half Moon Bay to wait out the weather and then to Sausalito for repairs.  The extent of damage to the boat is not yet known but the tow to Half Moon Bay is $40K.  The great people of Pacifica have rallied to supply their immediate needs like shelter, clothing and food.  The crew are boat owners Tahnee Garver and Toni Claar.  They both recently retired from driving trucks to pursue their dream.  Toni wants to be the first transgender woman to sail around the world.  On the boat with Tahnee and Toni were Marlaina Meador and Levi Trench Beiling who are engaged and expecting their first baby in a couple of months.  They are thankful to have made it off the boat safely, but now they are stranded in Pacifica and are faced with needing to replace everything that is under water on the boat and make repairs to the boat.  They are very nice, hard-working people who have been on the giving end of tragedies in their community.  They have not asked for help and have appreciated the support they have received so far.  Please feel free to share this post.  You never know when you could find yourself in a position of needing help. Let’s help Tahnee, Toni, Marlaina and Levi with what we can to repair the Hecate Spray, follow their dreams and Toni to reach her goal of being the first transgender woman to sail around the world!
