Help Us Stop School Violence

Donation protected
Help stop bullying and school violence.

Kids go into schools with anger and vengeance because schools themselves are a source of their pain.

We are introducing respectful communication skills in New York City schools -- as well as training teachers and administrators in a revolutionary new program.
It's the Trauma-Sensitive School approach that has just been endorsed by Oprah as the most important information she’s ever encountered.  If you just watch two minutes of what she has to say starting at 2:14 of this video, you will see why someone with such a powerful voice, like Oprah, has gotten behind an important element of our work.

She flat out says "to fix trauma, you have to fix where the wounds began and we need the resources to do it." We are a resource.

Help us bring our program to thirty at-risk high schools in New York City. Every $100, allows us to give a curriculum to a school counselor and every $500 allows us to give a series of trainings that can change the climate and culture of any school.

In it’s simplest the trauma sensitive approach is about care and compassion as opposed to punishment. For any donation, we’ll send you our book and you can read all about it.

Please consider this appeal for support in the most critical of times AND please share this with your friends and family.

The Relationship Foundation offers programs for students and teachers, which gives them the tools to develop respectful and empathic communication skills. In it’s simplest, we explore how we can articulate our needs and feelings without blame and judgment and listen empathically. These skills help to counteract bullying, sexual harassment and other types of social cruelty.

We help schools realize that behavioral issues stem from the effects of ongoing trauma mostly from the home environment. Trauma releases stress hormones: cortisol and adrenaline, which perpetually has children in fight, flight, or freeze. In 2010, during a two year period, a pilot school implemented a Trauma-Informed approach.  It resulted in suspension days going from 796 to 135, and graduation rates going up 5 times. Caring relationships became the norm rather than a punitive response. Since then, the Trauma-Informed School Movement has begun to spread nationwide and The Relationship Foundation is bringing this approach to schools in New York City.

After ten years of providing relationship education to over 35 schools, word has spread about the impact of our work, and schools throughout the city are requesting our program. Many of the interested schools do not have the funds to bring us in. With your support, we can help schools foster a better quality of life for their community and in the process achieve greater academic achievement.

Thank you from all of us at TRF,
