Health Insurance for Hip Replacement

$5,975 of $10,000 goal

Raised by 31 people in 2 months
One rainy night in October of 2015, my 24yr old boyfriend Chris fell off his bicycle on our way home. Weeks passed with his pain getting worse. After numerous visits to the hospital, with no action he was finally diagnosed with Avascular Necrosis of his left hip.

In layman's terms, that means the femur head is no longer receiving blood, causing the bone to rot. Sometimes there are medical treatments to prevent the decay, but unfortunately Chris's femur head collapsed prematurely within months of the accident. This means he cannot walk or stand for a long time without having severe pain. Sleeping is virtually impossible without waking up from pain. Or sometimes the pain is so horrible he will have a seizure that causes him to pass out for a few hours.

To go from an athletic ball of energy that used to walk the entire island that is his hometown, to not being able to leave the house without prepping days in advance, has caused a depression he fights every day.

This gofundme is for a years worth of insurance at $400 a month, so $4800. This insurance has a $3000 deductible, doctors appointments are $25, specialist doctors are $50. Hospital visits are 20% after the deductible is paid. It also provides vision and dental, coverage he has not had since he was 18.

This insurance is incredibly necessary to give Chris his way of life back, and the ability to provide for our family's future. The past two years have been rough monetarily, but we made it work. I absolutely cannot afford this insurance, but I will do everything possible to give Chris back stability.35488712_1545324456885645_r.jpeg  We just need a little help.

In 24~ hours Chris will be having his hip replacement surgery!

Chris called this morning and finished putting down the second half of the down payment for surgery, a huge financial weight lifted off our shoulders!

Now we wait on a phone call that tells us exactly what time the surgery will be.

He won't be eating or drinking after midnight tonight. We have these weird wipes he will be using before he sleeps to disinfect his body of germs to prevent infection, and overall being super super nervous! There's no cause other than the unknown.

This would not have been possible without the love and care of family and friends, even a few strangers!

Please send us all the good vibes the surgery goes a-ok! If you're in the area I will be sharing his room #, though he apparently won't be there long!

THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH FOR THIS SECOND CHANCE AT A NORMAL LIFE!

Good morning!

We are now less than 2 weeks away from Chris's surgery!!!

We got some pretty unexpected news yesterday.

We were told on 1/31 that our surgeon needed a down payment of $2,500. Something we definitely don't have. I confirmed they expect a minimum of $1,250~ and some change.

This was incredibly disheartening and frustrating to hear, after being in multiple appointments and getting very vague answers regarding payments, only to be told less than 2 weeks before the surgery they expect a payment so high. (Their explanation was the deductible has to be paid to be able for our insurance to cover the rest. So while we're lucky the deductible is ONLY $2,500, it's because we pay $400 a month for the insurance. "High" and "Low" are relative to the person's insurance, it's crazy and confusing.)

Anywayyyy,

After bawling on the phone explaining I'd probably have no more than $100 to give, we reached out to Chris's family, who were able to raise $700.00 completely unexpectedly.

I reached out this morning to Karen, and while she initially said they declined our $100 offer, I'm hoping $700 is enough and the rest can be on payment plans.

If not we will be scrambling to find an additional $500+ in order to get this surgery!

We knew this wouldn't be as easy as it seemed, but we're staying positive!

Wish us luck we can get this surgery to happen!!! We will not let this opportunity pass for Chris.

Hello everyone! It feels like such a whirlwind of things going on since I began this gofundme! When I first began this, we had been struggling for two years on one income, with no help of any kind for Chris and his pain. With YOUR help, we reached enough for him to have insurance, worry free, for the next few months.

In the two weeks he's had coverage, he's had two appointments with the surgeon, and CHRIS WILL BE GETTING A FULL HIP REPLACEMENT SURGERY ON 2/12/19!!!!

We are incredibly excited, and thank everyone sooooo much for your help!

The total for his surgery will be the total of his out-of-pocket maximum, which is $6,750.00.

His insurance is a total of $4,800 for the year.

So a little over $11,550.00. That does not include the co-pays towards doctors appointments ($60 per appt), or prescriptions ($25 per script.)

Chris is sooooo excited to finally be able to do things with no pain and be able to work again to contribute to our life.

This journey is not done, but it could not have begun without your help. We are grateful beyond words.
