Help Children Heal with Horses

Donation protected
Do you love this heart warming feeling when you make someone happy as much as we do?

We want to make differently abled children and adults smile as often as we can because they teach us the real value of life.

What We Do:

Every day we spend all of our efforts turning that volume up for anyone in earshot to hear their voices. In order to give back to the community ALL differently abled children and adults who are in need receive "Equine Nature Therapy" (ENT) FREE OF CHARGE. In order too keep providing the program at no cost for the participants, we need to raise the necessary funds. Please, help differently abled humans heal with horses!

Our internationally recognized Foundation, serving the Trinidad and Tobago community, is honoured to offer our services to individuals from various institutions, homes, and orphanages diagnosed with the following:

• Autism
• Down's Syndrome
• Cerebral Palsy

Our Mission:

Creating an integrated, inspiring space for differently abled humans and equines where we embrace & empower them to realise their full potential through therapeutic interactions. To date, we have supported numerous children and adults as well as rescued 10 horses and foster animals, all deserving to live their lives filled with love and empowerment.

Who We Are:

Healing with Horses is a Tobago non-profit, non-governmental  organisation for free rehabilitation of differently abled horses and humans. Our main program consists of ongoing after-school sessions which are offered throughout the year to various school groups and private organisations, such as the Yahweh Foundation and the Technical Vocational School. The focus is ”Being with Horses” as the children commune, groom, feed, and ride. Our therapeutic playground offers a variety of stations for swinging, climbing, seesawing, imagination, and creativity. Here the children learn to safely use and improve their physical abilities at their own level, learn friendship and teamwork, bond with volunteers and develop confidence and trust. Our Creative Gardening project teaches the children the joy of creating, being with nature, and the fulfilment of the harvest.

We are extremely resourceful, making use of donated and recycled materials, such as using sawdust for the horse bedding, building our own facility with bamboo cut from the bush, painting our own signs, building our own handicap bathroom, taking in rescued horses, doing our own vetting, searching out qualified supervisors to volunteer, and seeking out discounted housing for our volunteers from abroad.

Our Story:

My name is Veronika Danzer-LaFortune and I am the Director and Founder of Healing with Horses Foundation. My husband Lennon and I started this journey in 2010. We had a dream that one day humans and horses who are differently abled and often left behind in society be able to live full, independent, active and healthy lives.

We created a place for children and adults from different backgrounds, with varying physical and mental abilities and of different nationalities to come together to enjoy therapy and creative play.

With one horse rescued from the rain forest and a heart filled with love and hope, we started the Healing with Horses Foundation. Today our herd counts 10 members. The majority of them are rescue horses. Because they are free to be without stress or anxiety, they have a heightened insight into their rider and are able to create full partnership.
