Healing for recent DePaul graduate

On Thursday, July 18, a 22-year-old recent graduate of DePaul University was attacked and critically injured on North Halsted near the Lincoln Park campus. Police believe this may have been a sexually motivated attack, but she courageously fought back and saved her own life. The wounds on her neck are serious, and in fighting the attacker her hands were severely cut and debilitated. She has already undergone several surgeries to both her neck and hands. In addition, due to the trauma, she has suffered multiple strokes. Recovery will be a long process. Currently, she is facing several months of in-patient physical rehabilitation to regain all she lost in the attack and subsequent strokes.

The survivor is a beloved friend and can put a smile on your face, no matter what. She is loyal, funny, happy and passionate about life. She gives 100% to everything she does. Our hope is to get her back to the activities she was involved in before the attack. She loves to travel, is a dancer, a writer and was starting graduate school in the fall.  All of that is now on hold.

We have set up this page to help alleviate the financial burden on our friend and her family who is focusing full time on her recovery.  All funds donated will go to directly to the family and assist in medical costs which are accumulating quickly.

We are pleased with the progress our friend is making as she continues to beat the odds every single day. The road ahead is long, but it’s a little brighter than it was a few weeks ago and for that, we are forever grateful. We thank you in advance for your help and kindness.
