Karsten's Medical Needs

Karsten is 4 years old and was diagnosed at 18 months old with Spinal Muscular Atrophy also known as SMA. This disease affects virtually every muscle in the body, even the lungs, ability to walk and even swallow. His prognosis was devastating however Karsten has far exceeded the expectations of doctors, but he has had a couple serious bouts of Pneumonia and respiratory failure, however, because of the prayers of a loving family, church families and friends, he has made miraculous recoveries. God has been so faithful!
Karsten is full of life and has a very vivid imagination and quite an extensive vocabulary. He loves to sing, go to church, watch Disney movies and watch Play-doh videos. Karsten has gotten older and now realizes that he is not like the other kids who can run and play and do things on his own. Karsten has become extremely difficult to maneuver because he is getting bigger. Karsten has outgrown his manual wheelchair stroller and also his car seat. The van conversion cost $18,000. A big majority has been raised from the local community, however, his parents have taken out a loan to complete payment for his lift. Anything donated will go directly to the van, loan to complete the comversion or modifications to allow wheelchair access. The Herrick family thanks you in advance for any support!
