Get Our Sick Kid Moved Home

Donation protected
Hey friends, I hope this finds you all well. I'm sorry, but I'm coming to you with a Tale of Woe, and a Tale of Hope, and a Plea for Help. Our kid, Olivia, has fallen ill. Unable to work, and denied Disability, she needs Family. We need to get her moved in with us here in Washington as close to immediately as possible.

Olivia moved across the country to Indiana back in 2010. It really doesn't seem that long ago. I remember how excited I was for her and how proud we were of her for taking such a huge step. She did it! Moved across the country, got a job and began establishing her life in a new city. She never had to ask us for help. Went to a new state AND successfully became an independent adult.

Just this passed August, Jerry and I got married. It was awesome! August in Western Washington was divine, though a bit on the hot side. One of the most awesome parts of it was getting to see Olivia again for the first time since we watched her climb into that U-Haul four long/short years ago.

But she was already starting to feel bad then. She was experiencing headaches and dizziness and a host of other symptoms. She spent a lot of that trip feeling really rough.

Between then and now, things have really gotten serious. If she stands on her feet, she experiences blinding pain, dizziness and nausea leading to vomiting.

She has had a multitude of tests done. For most of this time, the doctors thought she had idiopathic intracranial hypertension. A CAT scan, an MRI, and extensive eye exams found pressure on the optic nerve, but after they did a spinal tap, the doctors say they just don't know why, and don't know what to do about it.

Yeah, and here's your note to go back to work.

You might miss some days of work due to headache.

Olivia has been a strong and independent young woman. She's been responsible. She's been taking care of herself. But now the healthcare industry has failed her and is turning their backs on her. There's no neat little bureaucratic box to check that IDs her illness, so throw her to the dogs!!

My anger is covering my fear, honestly.

Our kid is sick.

We need her here with us.

Now.

We've got a topnotch healthcare system in Washington. We'll be able to get Olivia signed up with the group we have. Shine has heard from several people with very similar stories who have made a full recovery here in Washington. So we are hopeful.

Unfortunately, the expenses of the last five or six months have wiped out what small reserves we had. Olivia has missed so much work and had so many medical related expenses that she's tapped out, too. We have a wonderful cousin who has volunteered to make the trip in her vehicle.

We just need to fund the trip.

Gas, food, lodging, and a uhaul trailer. 5700 miles. Can't be that much, right? I just did the math. :( Holy moly!

$2800 (rounding up to $3000 because I did not pad my estimates)

I can't believe I'm actually doing this. Telling you our sad-yet-hopeful story and asking you for your help. This is the only way we've been able to come up with. Please help if you can. If you can't, do you know anyone who might?

Thanks for listening. If you can help in any way, thank you so very very very much.

If we have anything left after the trip, we're going to need a storage unit. We're going to have four people living in a small two-bedroom until June. We absolutely MUST have a storage unit, so we'll put any excess towards that.

Once again, thank you so much for listening!

With love and hope,

Jerry and Shine Allen-Foshee
