Have a Heart for Shark
Hailing from Donetsk, Ukraine, Bogdan “Shark” Grebenyuk is a student and member of the swim team at West Chester University. Shark has enjoyed the life of a college athlete in the United States. Over the years, Shark has formed a special "brotherhood" with his teammate and swim lane partner, West Chester Henderson (Pa) native, David McCormick. Shark and David's parents now consider each other family.
When war hits home
All was well for the Grebenyuk family until February 2014 -- that's when the Russians began military operations resulting in the seizure of Ukraine's Crimean Peninsula. Since then, there has been a civil war throughout eastern Ukraine. Hundreds of innocent people have been killed, specifically in Shark’s hometown of Donetsk. Shark’s father, a doctor, was targeted to be killed by a terrorist group. He was shot at twice, including a mock excution. Shark’s mom was a witness to this horrific event. Fortunately, he survived.
Escape to West Chester, PA
With a couple of suitcases, travel visas and the assistance of hired militia, Shark's parents traveled to Kiev, Ukraine. There, they boarded a plane and arrived in West Chester, PA on Tuesday, July 8, 2014. Currently they are living in West Chester Pa.
Shark's parents needs your help
With Shark’s parents now safe in the United States. They have some immediate basic needs that require financial assistance.

Hello, I just found out about Elena and Yuriy's situation and it seems to be under control. Very glad to see so many people engaged in helping them out! My name name is Mariya Power and I was Elena and Yuriy's high school classmate in Donetsk (HS#1). They know me as Masha Samoylova. I immigrated to the U.S. in 1996 and lost all my contacts in Ukraine. Could anyone help me reconnect with the Grebenyuks? I would appreciate any contact information. Hopefully they are still in West Chester. Thanks!
As an American-born 2nd generation Ukrainian, I am all too familiar with this situation. I consider myself lucky to even have contact with family in the Ukraine. Shark has been blessed with the miracle of his parents being here. I am a social worker employed by the County of Chester and would like to pass on some housing assistance resources. Also, ESL class information in West Chester, if needed. email@example.com
Hi- I work for Zukin Realty in the town of West Chester. Call the office at 610-696-0953 (allison) because we may be able to help with housing.
Where would you go to donate clothing, food, furniture. Also sizes??
Shark's family is overwhelmed with gratitude but ask that we all keep the citizens of Donetsk, Ukraine and all the innocent victims in your prayers. Lets all have a good and peaceful day!
