Harvest our Past... Sow the Future

Help save one of Canada's Vanishing Sentinels!

You - yes... YOU - have the ability to ensure that the Pioneer Village Museum in Beausejour, Manitoba, saves and preserves one of Manitoba's iconic wooden grain elevators!

Sadly, the days of grain elevator dominance in the area are now just a memory.  Beausejour’s once-imposing “elevator row” is long-gone, with the last elevator falling victim to demolition in 2012 (see video below).

The only remaining wooden grain elevator in the Brokenhead area – and in the Eastern Manitoba region, for that matter – is the Tyndall Elevator.

With this in mind, the Pioneer Village Museum has embarked on an ambitious plan to save, relocate, and refurbish the Tyndall Elevator.  Ultimately, the goal of this project is to transport the Tyndall elevator from its present location to the Beausejour-based museum, creating a new museum centerpiece in the process.

At the root of this vision is a desire to preserve our past, honor those who came before us, and prevent the demolition of our last “prairie sentinel”.

This elevator has a tremendous heritage value to the area, as it:

• Is the last remaining wooden grain elevator in Eastern Manitoba.
• Was located on the “original” CPR mainline that passed from Molson through East Selkirk.  This line was originally intended to cross in Selkirk, Manitoba, which would have dramatically altered Manitoba’s political and commercial roadmaps.
•Presents visitors with a glimpse back to the past, and pays homage to the area’s most prominent citizens: the famers.
•Provides the community with unparalleled tourism potential, forming an immediate “draw” to the area.  In 2015, the Inglis Grain Elevator Row received 811 visits, up from 558 in 2014 (45% increase).  Beausejour’s proximity to Winnipeg, Manitoba’s capital city, ensures greater expected gate attendance.

What's in it for you?  Donate $20 or more, and receive a charitable tax receipt, mailed to your Canadian Address.  Plus, with your donation, you can rest assured that you have contributed to the perservation of an important piece of history, preventing yet another Prairie Sentinel from demolition.

What happens if we fall short of our goal for this project?  In the event that the move of the Tyndall Elevator becomes impossible (from a political, financial, or other perspective), rest assured that any donations you make will be fully committed to the move of other agriculturally-related buildings to grow our village. In this case, your donation will help the Pioneer Village Museum procure other historically-relevant items to make our museum the "jewel" of the Brokenhead area.
