Dock Street School Tour of Harvard University

Dear Friends of Dock Street School,
We need your help to send 50 middle school students from The Dock Street School in Dumbo to Harvard University. The trip is scheduled for Saturday, May 4, and there are 50 Dock Street Scholars who want to attend. Most of our scholars are from low-income areas and cannot afford to pay for the trip. In order to avoid cancelling, we are trying to fundraise the needed amount. The final cost for the bus is $2,0000, along with an additional $500 for food. Our Dock Street Scholars on this trip will meet and befriend Harvard students and take part in various technology, arts and sports activities along with a tour of the campus’s historical areas. The experience is part of our larger mission at the Dock Street in Dumbo: we want our students know that their future is as rich as they want it to be.
The Dock Street School is a Title 1 Public Middle School, which means that more than 60 percent of our students come from low-income families. Several of our students are also homeless. We have programs that serve the needs of students with learning disabilities including students on the autism spectrum. We don’t dwell on where our students come from; rather, we focus on the bright futures that await them. Keeping with those ideals, we stress a STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math) curriculum designed to challenge accelerated learners in grades 6-8 in order to allow them to succeed in this hyper-connected tech-focused world.
Our success has only been possible through the relationships we have with our Dumbo community. We are also accepting donations on our website at https://dockstreetschoolnyc.com/
