Harley was Hit by a Car

Donation protected
Long story short,  2pm on Wednesday our chihuahua escaped the front door when a dog walker/trainer was dropping off our other dog. The door was left wide open, she saw a stranger in the house and bolted out the door to escape. Since she is very fearful of strangers, she didn't want to head back home and instead left our gated community and was running back and forth on busy roads.
I left work early when I saw what happened on our home security camera and got the scene quite quickly, but Harley was no where to be seen.
My boyfriend left work early to look for her, and MANY friends who knew Harley came to search (even some that lived well over 30 min away). We were searching everywhere, putting up signs and there was no sign of her anywhere. It started pouring rain so we called off the search and was hoping she would show up at the front door if she was still alive.
It stopped raining so we went back out at 11pm or so, still no signs of her anywhere. I walked 7 miles that afternoon looking for her.
It rained ALL night, we live in a coyote area and we live ON a main road.. so I knew she wasnt going to make it through the night.
I continued to search for her at 5AM that morning... walking the streets with her favorite dog sibling Chevy (boston terrier) in hopes if she was still alive... that she would see Chevy and come out to see her.
I had to get to work becuase I left early the previous day... but my boyfriend and a few friends came out to keep looking for her.
We got plenty of calls saying they saw Harley running across what is pretty much a 6 lane freeway in front of our house.. bolting between cars, we would run out in front of the house and never saw her.
Just before 10am on Thursday morning.. out pops a little wet bloody chihuahua with a limp. She was trying to find her way home.
We were hoping it was nothing too serious, and she was just scared and would end up being okay...
She went to the vet, $800+ dollars later.. shes bandaged up, missing some toe nails, cut up pretty badly, and the vet said she was hit by a car. A chest Xray was taken but the results had to be sent to a specialist.
We took her home and she didnt seem fully there and her breathing was pretty strange, so we took her back the to the vet today after we got the results for the Xray.
Turns out she has a punctured lung and they removed 1.6 cups of air (not sure how you measure that...) from her lung and that helped her breathing a lot!!
She has to stay at the vet overnight and our new vet bill at the specialist is at $2,000 right now... but we arent sure how much more will be added... this was just the down payment for her one possibly two night stay at the vet. If her lungs are still leaking air.. she needs to go into surgery to fix the puncture.
She is staying over night in an oxygen tank, and being watched all night by the vets to make sure nothing gets worse.

She may  just look like a chihuahua to most, but shes way more than that! She is my running buddy, my stand up paddle boarding buddy, my Saturday Morning star bucks buddy, our best friend, a doggy sister to Chevy and Riley... and so much more!

you can follow more of her story on her Boston Terrier sisters Instagram page. @chevytheboston.

if you cant donate at this time, sharing her story will help us out a lot! This should have never happened to her and its even worse knowing this happened when we werent home... she has a long road to recovery. Shes only 4 years old, and we are hoping she can make a full recovery and go back to her happy self in no time.

I will update this page as we learn more.
