The HappiMe app

Please can you help me Make a Difference to children, young people anad adults by helping to create a unique and innovative app that will help build their self-esteem, self-confidence and happiness levels?  HappiMe is FREE and non-profit, so we need your help!

Every little helps, whether that is £2 or £200!

Did you know...?
-850,000 children aged 5-16 have mental health problems
-One in 10 deliberately harm themselves regularly (and 15,000 of them are hospitalised each year because of this)
-Nearly 80,000 children and young people suffer from severe depression
-Nearly 300,000 young people in Britain have an anxiety disorder.
And these are just the ones we know about! :-(

Our children need a new set of tools to help them cope. The education system is broken and not able to help children build the emotional resilience they need. It's up to us!

HappiMe is a free app that will help raise self-esteem, self-confidence and happiness levels in children and adults by teaching them about the power of thinking positively.

Years of coaching has shown me that we are often our own worst enemies when it comes to being happy. We listen more to the negative voices in our heads than we do the positive ones. We listen to the voice that tells us  we messed up, that we are a failure, and that we are not good enough. Negative, unhelpful and fearful thinking makes us feel worried and stops us from trying new things.  We stop accepting and loving ourselves and are often too scared to go after our dreams.

We learn to listen to this negative voice at a very early age. In fact, experts say that most of the beliefs we have about ourselves are formed by the time we are 6 or 7 years old!

The HappiMe app uses simple CBT (cognitive behavioural therapy), NLP (neuro linguistic programming) and Mindfulness techniques in a fun and engaging way, introducing children to the power of happy thoughts [and thinking positively] through Chimp and the HappiTars

Introducing The Chimp and the HappiTars

Your chimp is mischievous, emotional and in charge of worrying. He is the little voice that tells children they messed up, they are rubbish and not good enough. He worries about things he shouldn’t worry about. He is the emotional part of the brain that kicks off when things don’t go as planned, the one who throws toys out of the cart, sulks, gets angry and sad.

And then we have your HappiTar - your Happiness Avatar. They are the sensible ones in charge of happiness!  It’s their voice that calm you down and tells you not to worry, letting you know how great you are. They are there to cheer you on! HappiMe teaches children that they have control over which voice they listen to and that a thought is just a thought, with power only when we focus on it and add emotion.

Both young and older children love Chimp & The HappiTars.  They ‘get it’ instantly and quickly learn to recognise when their chimp is running the show. Parents of younger children have reported that the concept is a great tool to use on a day to day basis with children who worry a lot.  Simply labelling their worry a ‘Chimp thought’ and bringing in a  more helpful ‘HappiTar thought’ can be enough to calm their anxieties.

HappiMe will contain 100’s of pre-recorded positive affirmations or ‘helpful thoughts’  that children can choose from to create playlists to listen to at home, going to sleep, while getting ready in the morning, or in the car. The app can also be used to calm younger children after a tantrum or with older children after an angry outburst.

The affirmations will be recorded using children’s voices. Users can add their own backing track from their favourite songs, and even record their own voices! The app also contains fun videos to help explain other happiness and confidence building tools, and a calming mindfulness game.  There is also a simple but powerful ‘swipe’ game teaching children to recognise the difference between helpful and unhelpful thoughts. Multiple versions of HappiMe will appeal to children ages 5-16.  The ‘Grown Up Stuff’ section provides plenty of additional resources, exercises and tools for parents and caregivers. We are launching an adult version at the same time.

It’s a project that I feel very excited and passionate about. If we can help our children understand and gain control of their thinking from a young age we can save them years of worrying and heartache resulting in happier, more confident young adults. A child that has the belief that ‘I’m not good enough’ will grow into an adult that believes the same, so early intervention could very well stop this becoming a self-fulfilling prophecy.

However, in order to make my dream a reality and begin this exciting journey to start helping children be happier, I need help. I need raise £6000 for the developer fees.

The support and encouragement we have had from parents and teachers has been overwhelming. It seems there is a massive need. Unfortunately, it seems that there is a growing need for this type of resource with more and more children being treated for anxiety, depression and self-harming.
Let's change these awful stats...

The plan is to create three different versions of the same app. One for kids, one for teens and one for adults.

My Story

In 2012 I was diagnosed with breast cancer, lost my lovely mum halfway through my treatment and then found out my husband was having an affair. All within a year! To say that this gave me a slightly different perspective on life would be the understatement of the century!

I decided to down-size my Business & Executive coaching business and start doing the thing that makes my heart sing…empowering children and adults to be the best they can be! I lost nearly 7 stone and got fit and began to create tools and programmes that would really make a difference to people’s lives. So far I have created a motivation & empowerment app for adults called Yes, I Can Do it and co-created a life-changing, self-confidence coaching programme for children that my lovely daughter Abby is currently running in schools in Bristol.

HappiMe is my biggest 'Make a Difference' project yet so thank you so much for your support! Together I really believe that we can make a difference.

with bucketfuls of gratitude
