Hannah Marie - a home of my own - can you help?

Donation protected
Our sister Hannah is a benevolent and spirited soul with a huge heart and wild sense of humour. She also happens to be non-speaking autistic.  Hannah's Autism diagnosis came late in life, in her mid-50s, after 5 decades in care.

Hannah went into care as a child when our parent's marriage broke down. Her formative years were spent in long stay Hospitals and were very challenging at times. People didn't understand her. Her former staff assure us though that she was much loved. When Hannah turned 30 her life eased. She was moved to a small residential care home in Devon. Despite the difficult circumstances Hannah has always been joyful and close with her family.

At 57yo we want to give Hannah a home of her own to live in, for the first time ever. A place where she can choose who to spend time with, when to get up, what to eat and what she wants to do with her day! A place where she doesn't need name tags or to have her clothes shrunk in the Dryer.  A place where she can just relax and rest, listen to her music, meet her friends, be close to her family and blossom !

Wonderfully an Investor has arrived to buy the home ! But to secure it we need funds to make the necessary mods for Hannah.

So we, Hannah's family, are launching a Go Fund Me appeal. We're asking anyone who feels moved by her story:

Can you help us give Hannah her first ever home?! :)

Hannah's recent background:
In 2015 Hannah suffered a permanent injury in care after a period of much change. She was discovered to have a broken hip. She spent 8 months in Hospital, due to complications.  By Jan 2016 Hannah had been given a full hip replacement. We had no idea if Hannah would walk again but her determination to get out of bed and back into life was clear. Hannah has always been incredibly headstrong and active. She is a bolter and a runner! Leaving us all in the dust when she wants to go somewhere!

We discovered a rural, campus-style residential home with on-site Hydro. It was in Cornwall, 2hrs drive from family. Being out in nature, after so long in bed, would mean a lot to Hannah. We agreed to a 6 month rehab placement. True to form at the first opportunity, and with assistance, Hannah got up and walked outside! In her first week Hannah lay on the ground squealing with delight, pulling up tufts of grass and listening to the birds.

3 years later Hannah is still walking (albeit a limp) and still in Cornwall. The distance from old friends and family has been a strain. We looked to bring her back to Devon.

We also worked hard to bring in the services that Hannah missed out on all these years. In 2017 Hannah was awarded her first Sensory Processing assessment and informal Autism assessment by the Cornwall Commissioner. We are extremely grateful that Hannah is finally 'on the map' of being seen by Experts. More importantly that she is recognised for who she is - an intact intelligence inside a spacesuit that doesn't speak or work in neurotypical ways.

Bringing Hannah home to Devon:
In Autumn 2017 a best interest agreement was reached for Hannah to be given a home of her own, for the very first time! Hannah will have 24/7 bespoke care around her which holds her safe but also enables her independence. We found a progressive local Care Provider who then brought the Investor and Autism Expert into the picture. Assessments were completed. A Life Planning Day was held, with Hannah at the centre. Slowly the process unfolded. A house was found, close to Hannah's sister, and an offer went in by Oct 2018.

The house is perfect for Hannah: 2 bedrooms, so she can have a 'sleep-in' carer on the premises at night; a quiet neighbourhood; a beautiful garden overlooked by a grand old Walnut Tree; a huge deck to catch the sun and plenty of parking for all of Hannah's friends and visitors !

Funds needed:
Currently we are awaiting Exchange of Contracts. This rests on finding the funds for the necessary modifications to the house. The Local Council is assessing the home to see what Disability Grant they can provide and the Investor has a budget available to help too. But there is a shortfall. Its a gorgeous house, just right for Hannah. We have about a month to find the funds needed. The estimated shortfall is circa £10k to £15k.

Can you help us give Hannah this beautiful home?!

All donations gratefully received!

Together we can make a difference! We can make this home something really special for a very special soul.

Funds are needed for:
- carpets and lino (circa £2k)
- decoration throughout (£1500)
- white goods (£1000)
- fencing the deck (£2500)
- Patio doors so Hannah can easily step out onto her deck (£2500)
- ramping the deck so Hannah can get into her garden (£3k)
- a bespoke wet room (£2k)
- garden landscaping to make it 'Hannah friendly'
- generally making this house a lovely, cozy home with inside and outdoor furniture (£1500).

Family will offer labour for free. We need the funds for materials and professional labour.

All donations will be held in an account for Hannah's benefit and spent transparently on her needs. We will post updates on where the funds go. Every donation matters! Big and small. No amount is too little - each contribution will make a difference! A journey of 1000 miles begins with the first step. We are massively grateful for ANY help you may feel able to offer :)

Hannah has friends, old and new, from all over the globe cheering her on! Hannah is that kind of a person. Everyone loves her. Hannah loves unconditionally and authentically with her whole heart.

Would you like to help such an unconditionally loving soul? :)

All visitors to her new home will receive a plentiful supply of Walnut Cake!

There are many mysteries about Hannah's life, and what she must have gone through, which she cant tell us. It has not been an easy journey for her. But Hannah is Love on legs. She sees the best in everyone and is a powerful, healing presence to be with. Throughout everything Hannah has retained her gorgeous, infectious smile, her laughter, her joy and her dimples. Hannah's language is that of gentle touch, long eye contact, subtle facial expressions and giggles. She is always listening, as many silent Autists do, to energetic nuances. Hannah is very aware of all the unspoken undercurrents going on around her. She emanates a benevolent calmness as she watches us all.

We, Hannah's family, would like nothing more than to give Hannah her own home, surrounded with the love she missed out on when younger.

Can you help us give this to Hannah?
