Hanksgiving 2017
Each year the Interact club of J.M. Hanks High School aims to feed at least 500 families for the “Hanksgiving” (Thanksgiving) holiday. Each meal has an average cost of $60.00.
From July to November, students hold food drives every weekend at local stores and rely on community donations to make this project happen. The school rallies behind the cause with a school-wide competition to encourage students to bring in donations.
In addition, we include our feeder schools in the event and they compete for the Traveling Turkey Award and bragging rights of beating all the other feeder schools for a year.
This project started more than sixteen years ago, with the goal of feeding ten families in our feeder pattern. With the generousity of community members and local businesses, we've grown to feed 500 families across the entire west Texas area!
