Haley Collin's Heart Fund

Donation protected
I have known Haley Collins since December 2004 (7 years old), when her mom, Bonnie, started working with us at Dr. Cohen’s office in SLO. Bonnie soon became one of my closest friends!  This is when I found out about her daughter’s serious heart condition. Haley  has serious heart defects. She is 19 years old and has always amazed me to my core! Vibrant, outgoing, sweet and caring young lady Haley was born with complex congenital heart defects. Defects in both upper and lower chambers. Her actual diagnosis is Transposition of the great arteries/double outlet right ventricle. Bonnie and Rick were blind sided by this information shortly after Haley’s birth, as you can imagine! Haley’s first open heart surgery was at 3 weeks old, to be followed by 3 more at ages 2 ½, 3 ½ and 11 years old. Then at age 17, Haley was implanted with a defibrillator (ICD).

Haley has now developed ventricle tachycardia and frequent funs of bigemeny as well as bradycardia. She has a moderately leaky tricuspid valve and narrowing of her left pulmonary artery.

What does this all mean? This means Haley is a miracle. Every day is a gift to Haley and all of us who love her! It is becoming more and more difficult for Haley to participate in activities. She has to be careful with her defibrillator and she cannot do a lot of the things that she has been able to do growing up. Haley is going to have to be put on a serious heart failure medication and will have to be hospitalized at Stanford in January for 4 days to be highly monitored. In addition to this, she is most likely facing another open heart surgery in the near future.

She has always wanted to live as an ordinary child and now a young adult. If you met her, you would never know she was suffering from this. Haley sang in the Morro Bay High School choir all four years, cheered for the Morro Bay Pirates football team all while being a high achieving student! Haley is also a lover of deep sea fishing with her dad. She is now a successful Cuesta College student, achieving her phlebotomy certificate and working towards an Associate’s Degree for medical assisting. She would love to go on to earn a bachelors in Psychology. Bonnie and Rick have always volunteered for her activities too. Coaching youth cheer and football, fundraising for cheer and choir both. Always encouraging Haley to experience life to its fullest and to not let this get her down!

I personally have seen this family go through so many tough times, suffer immense stress and worry, suffer HUGE amounts of medical bills….all while keeping up their day to day lives! They are the nicest, most friendly and caring family I know! They have acquired so much debt and now face many more mounting bills with these new complications. With the constant trips to Stanford and now a possibility of another open heart surgery, I am asking for help for them. Please consider making a donation and please share this with people you know!
