Hi folks. I'm reaching out to ask for help and support in these next few months as I get top surgery. This gender-affirming procedure will drastically improve my day-to-day quality of life and strengthen my relationship with my own body.
My surgery date is April 23rd. After, I'll be in recovery for 4-6 weeks. Some of you know that I work pretty active jobs bartending and in the service industry, so unfortunately working during this recovery time won't be an option. I'm budgeting out about $2,000 to support me during this time. At the bare minimum, I need to raise this $2,000 to go through with surgery this April.
The cost of the surgery, with my insurance, is around $3,600. I'm incredibly fortunate to be under my parent's insurance until my upcoming birthday this August. Unfortunately, my parents have struggled to understand my transition and feel a lot of hesitancy about contributing financially to this decision. As difficult as this has been for me to bear, I'm hoping that the community I live with daily, that does support and affirm me, will be able to help make this affirming surgery possible for me.
I'm so lucky to live in Chicago making theater and growing as an individual and an artist. I'm so lucky to live in a stable positive home with my sister and my roommate and our dog and cats. I'm so lucky to wake up every day in a body that I value and cherish and want to make more hospitable to how I see myself. Your contribution makes a huge direct difference in my life, and is a clear way to come to the aid of a transgender person attempting to live and exist authentically.
