My story is that I am a Hairdresser, Artist and a Hairdressing Industry Coach from Bangalow NSW Australia, and I have long supported Barnardos Australia, as their cause is close to my heart for a few reasons.

My Aboriginal family comes from Lightning Ridge, just under the Queensland/NSW border.  Our country is well know for it's beautiful opals and the beautiful Narran River.

My Nanna, Heather Jean Rosalean was never permitted to speak of her indigenous Australian heritage, as my Grandpa forbid it.
It was an era of exploitation, shame, fear and the stolen generation...a delicate time in history to say the least.

My Nanna.

So my Nan raised my Mum and my Aunties and Uncles  in a way that 'taught' them about our traditions through language, conversation and action.

There was one great big lie to add to this silence, and that was my Mumma and my Aunties and Uncles, were all told their heritage was Spanish!

It wasn't until 25 years ago, my Mum and her love of genealogy revealed that we were indeed Aboriginal people and quite suddenly, so much of my world made sense to me...that is a story for another time, but suffice to say, since learning about who I really am, combined with the maturity that living gives us, it has become very clear to me that I want to give, teach, and share with Aboriginal people all over Australia, especially our little ones.  I want to photograph, document and share this work too, for everyone to see and be a part of.

My Mumma.

As you know Barnardos is a foundation specifically for abused children and helping them find safe homes so they can grown and enjoy the beautiful life they deserve. There is a long line of abuse in our family.  That terrible history stops with me.  I'm writing a new story for myself, and my little family too...this 'giving back' is part of that story too.

So I had this idea of going down to Sydney Barnardos, to 'do' something, anything I could offer with the life skills and knowledge I have, so with the help of Barnardos we've come up with an idea of me going down to the Yurungi Learning Centre, to cut the Aboriginal kids hair and teach them some hair hygiene too, in their after school homework session at Barnardos Sydney.

This will truly and positively effect those children deeply...I cannot wait.

I need these funds as soon as possible so I can lock in dates, travel and liase with some hairdressing companies too (I want to put together a goodies bag of shampoo, conditioner and a brush - or something similar).  So I can leave the kids with something tangible.

EVO haircare.

This campaign means a great deal to me and I would love your support in giving these children a true and lasting experience.

My aim is to make this an annual fundraising event and grow this idea so it becomes a national initiative. Yay!

Thank you for taking the time to read, it's genuinely appreciated.
Love Stephie.
