1st Battalion 24th Marines Memorial

1st Battalion, 24th Marines (1/24), is a U.S. Marine Corps Reserve infantry battalion, headquartered at
Selfridge ANG Base, Michigan. Other units of the battalion are, Alpha Co. in Grand Rapids, Michigan, Bravo Co., in Terre Haute, Indiana, Charlie Co. in Lansing, Michigan, and Weapons Co., in Perrysburg, Ohio.
In 2006-2007, 1/24 was deployed to Al Anbar Province, Iraq for duty. During this deployment, 22 Marines were killed in combat operations. Upon return, the 1/24 Memorial Committee (a 501(c)(3) organization) was formed to design and build a suitable memorial to these "Fallen 22."
The memorial is located at, 47275 Sugarbush Rd, Chesterfield Twp., MI 48047. in the rear of the Township Offices. We have been working on this project for over 10 years! It looks like we will finally be successful in completing it, this year.
We are especially in need of sponsors, to provide the 22 Bronze Plates that will be part of the "Fallen Comrade Table." It takes $500 to sponsor a plate. We have 5 sponsors, so far, and need another 17.
Things have been moving forward, and through a lot of generosity, our Go Fund Me goal has lowered substantially, to $30,000. We are in the "Home Stretch." We have received many donations from generous people, who have given from their hearts, whatever they could. We are looking to complete the memorial, and dedicate it to the the 22 Marines, their families and the Marines they served with, this fall.
