Support James's Cross-Country Move

Donation protected
James Reed has been un- and underemployed due to disability for the past 5 years.  He is the first person in his family to earn a Master's degree, and he has the motivation and skills to work, but up until recently he has only lacked opportunity.  Social services have been little help.  James worked with DARS (The Government Office responsible for helping people in James's situation) for four years. After switching to a new agency, James personally discovered that DARS had not filed a key piece of paperwork that would have allowed him access to opportunities specifically tailored for those in his situation. Years of applying for jobs, with help from DARS and on his own, had been based on the assumption that DARS had actually finished the required paperwork.

Less than a week later, James completed the paperwork himself, and right after that got a job in Seattle.

James is currently on disability services, which in the United States means that he cannot have more than $2,000 in his bank account or he risks losing benefits.  His family is helping the best they can, but they do not have the money to handle the cost of this move while waiting for James' first paycheck from his new job.

Anyone who has ever had to move knows how expensive it can be, even when you are trying to be absolutely as frugal as possible.  The trip from the Dallas area to Seattle is about 2000 miles or about 35 hours of driving, the estimated cost for gas is $240 per vehicle, not including necessary hotel stays for multiple days of driving.  Once he gets there, the expected rent for a studio apartment in the area he is looking to move to is $1300 per month.  He currently lives with his parents for support, so he will need basic apartment supplies and furniture, along with new clothes for his new job.

We (James' friends) are asking for your help so our longtime friend can finally take a step toward the stability and autonomy we know he deserves.  He has been working so hard to find a job for so long, and this is finally his big opportunity.  By donating any amount of money, you are truly helping to give someone a chance at living.  Please help James start his new life in Seattle!
