Save Envy

My dog was struck by a vehicle and seriously injured in a hit-and-run collision last night (3/13) at the corner of Gregory St & Bond St.

Envy had been staying with some friends while my wife and I were out of town for several days. After a very long drive home we picked her up around 8pm and while engaged in the "getting ready for walk" process an hour later, she very literally slipped through our fingers and excitedly ran to check in on a neighbor dog that she's fond of. At this time a car turned onto Gregory from Clinton Ave and immediately accelerated to what several witnesses figured to be far above the posted 30mph limit.

Seeing the sudden threat and trying to alert the driver, one of our neighbors stood in the street trying to stop oncoming traffic but this particular driver did not care and, continuing to accelerate, hit my dog. She was thrown a fair distance, dislocating a shoulder, breaking one front leg, fracturing the other, and leaving a large laceration on her torso from the impact with the pavement.

There are several businesses in the immediate vicinity which may have captured this incident on surveillance, and I'm holding out hope that the driver can be found and brought to justice. However this is uncertain, probably unlikely, and at the moment we are facing an estimated $3,000-5,000 in vet bills which admittedly and embarrassingly we simply cannot afford.

Yes, this could have been avoided. She should have been on a leash before the door was even opened. I'm not a perfect dog owner and accidents happen. If you're in a position to help us offset the cost of this absolute nightmare, please consider donating via this gofundme campaign.
