On October 26th, Emily unexpectedly collapsed and went into cardiac arrest and was put on a ventilator. During the course of her hospital stay thus far she has been put into a medically induce coma, continued to battle seizures, fevers and aspirating pneumonia. As of today there is talk with ENT to remove her from the ventilator to prevent permanent damage and place a Trach in to assist with her breathing. Once the seizures have been stabilized and kept at bay for a certain time frame, the medical staff will attempt to bring Emily out of the coma and complete a Neurological exam to assess the quality of life that she will have long term. We expect that there will be extensive rehab from a Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy and Speech Therapy perspective in order to get Emily back to herself.
Emily’s employer has informed the family that she has no short term disability benefits and they will need to continue to pay her medical premiums in order to keep her medical insurance active.
I have set up this account to help with this unexpected financial burden! I ask for your contributions to assist in Emily’s medical expenses and to also assist her family to continue to care for her 1 year old daughter, Mila.
All donations made will go directly to Emily’s family.

Here is the latest update:
Day 84-85; Not much to say this weekend. Not bad and nothing to write home about. I wasn't down there yesterday, so Calleigh and I went down to see her today. We watched the crappy Steelers game with her; as she sat there and listened to the announcers and got upset with the stupid plays when they talked about it lol. I brought her down some KFC mash potatoes and a smoothie from Dairy Queen and she actually had a few bites, so it seems like she is more willing to start getting more stuff in her belly. Her pain really seems a lot more controlled over the last couple of days, so I think that we are working through some of that, however, her therapy sessions haven't been crazy either. So we shall see what this week brings us.
Sorry my post today isn't much to give you all.
Praying for some MAJOR progress this week!!! She has an off day of therapy tomorrow; but guess who will be doing what I can to make her work even though she doesn't have therapy LOL. Emily Williams

Day 69- we had a HUGE day today!!!! I'll get to all of that in a minute.
So when I got there....she was sound asleep. I got there around 7:30....my plan was to talk to the nursing supervisor and the doctor (since I knew that she was new) Anyways, so I looked at her schedule and realized that she had therapy at 9. I had talked to the night nurse and told her that I didn't think she had a shower in 3-4 days.....and guess what, I was correct!! So I had asked that she be showered early for her therapy. So I'm sure you all know what happened........yah, it didn't happen. Thrdoc came in about 8:30 and went to go wake Em up and she got up and said she had to go to the bathroom really bad; well I pressed the button for the aide and someone answered quickly and I said She us to go. So I sat her up and tried to get her all ready to be transferred with her wheelchair. So I waited a few minutes, then about 10-12 min later I pressed it again. Again someone answered and I said Em was crying at this point that she had to go REALLY bad....i waited over 20 minutes for someone to help me, and at that point.....i had gotten her into er wheelchair by myself and got her into the bathroom before someone came!!! Unacceptable. So the aides actually came in to get her showered since she was already in there.
I made sure her life vest was changed out and cleaned because no one else does that even though they are supposed to.
So she came out and her jerks were pretty bad because she gets so upset and the transfers from chair to chair to chair are very difficult and cause her body to go into these jerks.....which make therapy really difficult.so she got her morning meds, and the docs came back in. At this point we discussed taking the trach out. Em said she was ready......but she said she was scared, at the same timethe doc was taking it out, and Em was still talking. I told her it was already out and she had the biggest smile on her face and said she couldn't believe it!!! They put a dressing over top and will let it heal. They said within a week it should be fairly closed up.
So she ended up with a few med changes; they decreased her oxycodone for pain as I want to try to get her on less major pain meds. They also started her on an antibiotic as with her repeat urinary analysis she still had bacteria so hopefully this will help. They will plan on getting her lyrica increased tomorrow.
So he ended up with an extra dose of the clonazepam for her jerks through therapy and I believe they actually increased her doses.
She did get through therapy, and seemed to do okay through the evening. She even got her PICC like out also!!!! No lines!!!
I am hoping the med changes help with her through therapy tomorrow!

Can't wait to discuss all of my concerns tonorrow!! The below statement couldn't be more true for both Em and myself.. and just thought it was appropriate! Emily Williams
