Shawn Soucy is strong. All his life, he's had the strength to confront obstacles in his path. Whether moving, building, lifting, painting, pushing, hammering - you name it, he's applied muscle and made it happen. But it's not merely a bicep or broad shoulders that makes Shawn strong. It's his calmness during adversity, his acceptance of troubling situations, and his big ol' heart that make him the friend, son, brother, partner, neighbor, worker and mentor that we know and love. He's helped many of us carry our couches and children, our groceries and worries, our sheetrock and flagging spirits, our despairing moments and lonely nights.
Now this strong man needs our help.
You might've heard that Shawn has cancer, the latest in a string of health related issues over the past eight years. He's had eight surgeries, seven on his knees and one to remove a tumor in his chest. He's had electronic devices implanted in his spine to regulate chronic pain caused by Complex Regional Pain Syndrome, an injury he sustained at work. He's gone suddenly blind and required surgery to remove quickly forming cataracts in both eyes. He'd learned that he had stage-one emphysema. Now an aggressive lymphoma has spread to his spleen, esophagus, lungs, diaphragm, and bone marrow. Shawn has started his chemotherapy treatments. They make him feel awful and weak. He won't be able to work. The expenses are adding up.
We've started Shawn's Cancer Fund on GoFundMe because we love Shawn. We want to help carry the man who has helped carry so many if us. We're hoping to lighten his load so he can focus on recovery. The funds will get Shawn through a year of Chemo and recovery. They will keep a roof over his head, heat in his rooms, healthy food in his fridge, and help corner travel expenses for treStments and appointments, some of which are far away.
Our goal is at least $10,000. We need your help.
