Gypsie Frank's Medical Fund

Gypsie Frank is a sound man, meaning that he's one of those guys you see behind mixing boards at music festivals and concerts, making everyone sound as good as possible. He lives in the wilds of northern New Mexico, several miles outside the community of Tres Piedras. He is very well known to the audiences and especially the performers of this region (although he works nationwide for some of the biggest festivals around) as the quiet and humble guy who just makes it all happen as excellently and transparently as possible, with no drama. Performers who know him say, "If I show up for the gig and see Gypsie there, I relax - I know things are going to be fine."

In late September of 2016, Gysie was running sound at a large nationally known festival, and took a bad fall while hopping over a fence running to the stage to make an adjustment. He broke several ribs and punctured a lung, but soldiered on, doing his job for the remaining 4 days of the festival. But because his breathing was severely impaired from the injury, and from working in the very dusty environment, he developed pneumonia and had to spend a couple weeks in the hospital. He had insurance, which paid about half his bill, but left him owing about $220,000.

As of this writing (January 2017), he is just starting to be able to go back to work, but won't have significant work until the festivals start up in May. His savings have been wiped out, and the bill collectors are calling. Gypsie is one of the hardest working guys around, and is the kind of guy who would never ask for money, or any kind of handout, which is why I'm doing it for him. If you've been to Michael Hearne's Big Barn Dance Festival, or the Crestone Music Festival, or any number of concerts and festivals around the New Mexico and Colorado region, you've enjoyed the fruits of Gypsie's work.
