I am raising funds to take care of stray cats in Beijing. As a German who grew up in China since I was one year old, I have been doing TNR (Trap, Neuter and Return) in the Chinese capital since twelve years and founded Charly's Cats in 2009.

Currently I am looking for funding for medical expenses for a stray cat colony in my compound in Sanlitun. The money will be used to do check ups, immunization and possible treatment for kidney problems for three older stray cats named Toby, Tiger and Lucy. I have been feeding and taking care of them since nine and six years repectively. Besides, two new cats have joined the colony. I want to trap, neuter or spay, immunize, deflee, deworm and return them. The International Center for Veterinary Services (ICVS) estimates the total costs for the treatment of the five cats at about 1000 Euro.

I am very thankful for all the donors who have supported my work over the years. In my compound and other places I have caught dozens of stray cats and had them neutered or spayed. They were also vaccinated before I returned them.

Since then, the usual problems have disappeared in my neighborhood: There are very few baby cats, the population is under control, there is less fighting among the cats and less injuries. The cats are healthy and the population has decreased. But new cats come, so there is continuous need for medical treatment and neutering of stray cats.

About me: After graduating from Western Academy in Beijing (WAB) I have worked  with a veterinary doctor before I started to study animal psychology focusing on cats and dogs. To raise awareness for stray cats in Beijing I have also given lectures on how to do TNR and how succesfull the work can be. For the cats that are social and adoptable, I have found dozens of new families (picture below). Some of them have even moved abroad with their adoptive parents.
