Gyaan Ghar Learning Center

Donation protected
Gyaan Ghar is a learning center located in Ludhiana, Punjab that was founded in 2008 to provide free after-school academic support to 20 underprivileged students in New Lajpat Nagar.

The center now has 65 students and has programs for visual art, music, dance, theater, public speaking, computers, and environmental education. Last year, 7 Gyaan Ghar students were selected to participate in the prestigious National Cadet Corps Leadership Program. The activities of the learning center have been covered by publications like the Times of India, Dainik Bhaskar, the Chandigarh Tribune, and Day & Night News.

Historically, funding for Gyaan Ghar has come from classmates, teachers, and family friends of Flint Hill, the high school that founder Ratna Gill attended. A year of classes at Gyaan Ghar costs only about $3,000 to fund, just another reminder that a dollar in the U.S. can mean so much abroad. Thus, the school has been able to run on  funding from FHS for the last 7 years. However, this funding has stopped, and Gyaan Ghar is looking for support from its community -- both locally and around the world -- to continue running.
