Chattanooga is thriving. Development is rampant throughout the city. Homes are being built at a breakneck pace.
One of the growing pains that we too often take for granted is the forced removal of the homeless from the shelters that they have constructed. Municipal eviction from the few remaining wooded areas in the downtown area has become commonplace as more trees go down and more asphalt goes in. Unfortunately, as wages have not kept pace with inflation even working full time doesn't guarantee enough income to both pay rent and buy food.
The goal of this gofundme campaign is to raise money to purchase a small (4'x8') trailer and outfit it with modest versions of basic ammenities such as a cot, a manual water pump, ventilation and a refrigerator. It will be simple. It will be small. It will make a difference to those in need of secure shelter.
As the need for temporary emergency housing arises for various people, both the occupant(s) and the location of this tiny home will change over time. Our intent is to complete this project within two months in order to provide refuge from the worst of the summer heat.
