Samantha Scott, daughter of Melissa and CW Scott, passed away of a sudden illness, Lemierre’s Syndrome, on Saturday, October 27th. Sam was a senior architectural engineering major and had been a key member of the team for her entire career on the K-State Rowing team. Helming both the 1v8 and 1v4 crews, she earned Academic All-Big 12 honors last season. The highlight of Sam’s career was a gold medal at the Head of the Oklahoma during the 2015-16 season. At Fort Morgan (Colo.) High School, Sam lettered multiple years in gymnastics and basketball before accepting K-State’s offer to come try rowing. Sam was known for her positive outlook on life and her contagious smile. Those who knew her closely are able to talk in depth about her outgoing personality and ability to cheer anyone up.

Lemierre’s Syndrome is a rare and life-threatening infection. This bacterial infection begins in the throat and spread through the lymphatic vessels. Symptoms can include sore throat and fever, followed by swelling of the internal jugular vein. The infection can quickly spread through the organs, most commonly through the lungs. This is a very fast acting bacteria that can take over the body if not treated right away.

The Scott family is in need of financial assistance for the medical bills and funeral costs to lay Sam to rest. They are also looking to start a scholarship fund on behalf of Samantha Scott for the K-State Rowing team.
