Justice for Candice Rose

On Monday, Nov. 3, a woman was assaulted in the middle of the day in Toledo, Ohio, by a group of men. That's bad enough, right? Well, there's also this. Police are investigating the assault of Candice Rose Milligan, 33, by assailants who targeted her based on their perception of her gender identity and expression. 

She suffered multiple critical injuries, requiring surgeries and hospitalization.  Her jaw was broken. She had bleeding on the brain. She was verbally assaulted by a pack of men. In downtown Toledo. In the middle of the day.

I don't know Candice Rose Milligan -- I've never once met her.  But I know people like her. I have friends like her. I could have had a daughter like her. I've read she works to bring justice to her community. Basically, I know she's a human being, and that right now she's suffering for the simple fact that she is alive in this world and is being herself. I can't in good conscience sit by and not try to make a difference, to help her.  So please, if this story touches you, as it's touched me, let's show her we support her, we see her, we know she's struggling, and we as fellow human beings want to reach out and be good human beings.

Won't you please donate to help defray whatever costs she may incur from her hospitalization and loss of work due to her injuries? As I've said, she doesn't know me from Eve, but I'd love to bring a little light into her world, given this horrific hate crime she's suffered.
