Golden Valley Experimental Gardens

Donation protected
Hi Everyone! My name is Jimmy Warshawsky and I am a student at Golden Valley High School, and a Boy Scout with Troop 139. To become an Eagle Scout (the highest rank), I have to carry out and lead a big service project that benefits my community. For this, I have chosen to help out my school and build two garden structures for the science department at GVHS. I am so close to executing this plan and making it a reality, but first I need your help. My goal is to funraise $1200 for this entire project. Your donation would mean so much to not only me, but the entire science department at Golden Valley and the students. Even a small amount is apreciated, anything helps! Thank you so much for taking the time to look into this; the project description is below.

Also, if you can't donate money but have other contributions that you would like to donate (cinderblocks, cement, tools, etc.), you can contact me directly through the contact section of this campaign. A full list of materials is also listed below.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The Golden Valley Experimental Gardens will be two terraced structures, made of cinder blocks, that house planter boxes suitable for experiments and lab testing by the science department and more specifically: the Environmental Science class. These structures will not only look nice, but they will also act as a blockade for skateboarders, so the existing planter bed is not destroyed. They will be 64 inches in length and 64 inches in width and the height at the tallest point will be 32 inches. There are three levels on each, for three planter beds. The beds will be sunken down, resting on support blocks, so the edge of each bed is level with the cinder blocks. Each planter bed will be 48x8x8 inches. The science department can choose what soil and what plants they grow but initially, I will use planting soil, with some standard flowers to add beauty. On the side of each structure will be number plates, so the classes can keep track of their experiments. The structures will sit on a perimeter of  cement footing (68”x68”), which we will lay on the first day of work, following leveling the ground.

THE STORY

I was approached by my 9th grade science teacher with a problem: Skateboarders were always rolling over the planter beds outside her classroom. Also, she had no place where her, and the other science teachers, could conduct experiments dealing with soil and plant growth. I developed this project which effectively solves both of these issues while also making the area more aesthetically pleasing.
