Transportation for Nature Trips

Growing Up Wild is a small outdoor education program in Santa Cruz County that helps youth connect with nature, learn life skills, and develop friendships among groups of diverse peers. We've been providing an overnight summer camp for boys since 2010.  We now have partnerships with some local schools to run programs during the school year. For example, we are currently piloting an outdoor environmental education program with an alternative high school in Watsonville. We are also in collaboration with the University of California Santa Cruz to help run a new three-year enrichment program for girls in middle school. To date, we have served approximately 750 youth. 

The goal of this fundraiser is to help cover the costs that it takes to begin transporting groups of youth on outdoor trips to wild spaces around the central coast of California. There is widespread awareness in the field of environmental education that one major barrier to getting youth outside is lack of transportation. We at Growing Up Wild are determined to help overcome this barrier, and provide regular outdoor trips to local, underserved youth.
