Hi my name is Kristi and I am a wife, a mother, business owner, & a survivor of battling kidney disease. I was diagnosed with FSGS or Nephrotic Syndrome when I was 15. Doctors told me I would never have children & be in kidney failure by the age of 20. Well, I defied those odds & had 2 miracles. My first preemie was born 6 weeks early weighing only 3 lb; we named him Gunnar. My 2nd preemie was born @ 26 weeks weighing only 1lb 10 oz at birth, we named him Jake, & was known as the "Miracle Baby" @ the Cleveland Clinic.
Due to the 2 high risk pregnancies, it took a toll on my kidneys and was in full blown kidney failure @ the age of 28. My sister was a match and willing to donate, & I received the Ultimate Gift of Life from her on 10/9/02! I love her so much & can never repay her for the Gift of Life!
After 13 years of having my sisters kidney, I received devastating news last year that the kidney was rejecting. I was in shock, as my faith told me that this kidney would last me a lifetime.
When my brother, Neil, heard the news, without hesitation, he said he would be willing to donate to save his sisters life. It's been a hard year, as dialysis and plasma freesis and IV/IG took a toll on me, my spirit, my energy, my emotional and physical limitations.
But my Faith, Spirit, Hope, & outlook always remained optimistic.
So on 2/19/16, my brother, Neil & I prepared for my 2nd kidney transplant. My brother wasn't nervous, & we were praying that God would protect us both & give this kidney God's Favor to last me a lifetime!
So I am recovering fantastic from my second kidney transplant! My creatinine is holding within normal limits. I have not seen these numbers since I was 15 years old. Unfortunately, the medical bills & medication are very costly-MMF drug, which is a key drug, just got a big bill. I am also a business owner who is struggling to keep my business above water because of all of the medical bills. Just as we finished paying off all the bills from the first surgery, now the new bills arrive for the second one. Yes insurance does cover some of it, but our out of pocket expenses are very high.
