PCT Thru-hike & Climbing Guide Book

Donation protected

Hello! We are Brien and Lando, we are currently volcano guides in Guatemala; and we are going to be hiking the Pacific Crest Trail in 2017 and would like to have your support!

We have some really cool goals for our thru-hike and after Brien's experience hiking on the PCT in 2015 we believe they are very realistic goals. The first goal is to complete a thru hike of the PCT while filming and documenting the entire journey. While this has been done before the next goal is quite unique- to create a bouldering guide for the PCT. We will carry climbing shoes and chalk and complete, and film, at least one boulder problem a day for our whole thru-hike.

A thru-hike alone takes a lot of equipment and knowledge. We are both mountain guides with years of experience under our belts. (The above photo is of the two of us guiding clients up Acatanengo Volcano in Guatemala). From this and both having done ultra-light long distance hikes in the past we both have most all the equipment we need. So what is left is the money to actually hike up the trail. Most of this will go to the food we will survive on, while hiking the trail. We are covering the costs of any gear we may still need and travel. Please also see our wish list if you would rather buy something directly. The rest of the money will go to staying in towns, which we plan to do very little. However, since our plan to film and post about our trip up the trail, we will have to spend a little bit of time in towns to edit and post our videos.

We will be starting our hike to Canada from Campo, CA in mid April of 2017. However that is not the end of being able to help up out! We will be posting our list of towns we will be going into for resupplies and you can send us packages or just encouraging notes to those locations! We would love to hear from all of you as we go up the trail.

We are also both experienced rock climbers, and Brien has a lot of experience with establishing new routes. Which will be very useful as we have to be quick about putting up these routes and being able to get our miles in on the trail. Please check out Brien's Youtube Channel if you'd like to see some climbing and hiking! But don't forget to like and subscribe!

Here is a full breakdown of what we need to make this incredible journey happen:
We plan to take four and a half months to complete our journey, this means ~126 days on trail.
-2 Protien/Granola bars each per day at an average of $2.50 a bar means $1,260 for the trail in bars.
-3 candy bars to split between us per day at an average of $2 per bar is $756.
-1 dinner for 2 per day costs an average of $6, totaling another $756.
-For breakfast we will be making the same amazing bars of oats and dried fruits Brien used the first time and cost less than a dollar each, so for these we will just say $126
-Lunch will consist of bread or torillas and cheese, tomato and onion. Costing about $600 for the trail.
-For keeping up our health and nutrition we will be eating dried fruits and nuts, as well as using a suppliment called "Vega One", which costs about $55 per container, this will cost us about $800 for the trail.
-Lastly we will need to find places to use internet in the 26 towns we stop in, to upload videos and keep all of you updated on the trip! This will be anywhere from hostels to coffee shops and should cost about $600 for the both of us.

This is how we arrived at our asking donation of: $4,898
