Growing Minmia's Teaching Place

This fundraiser is to help Minmia , an amazing Wirradjirri traditional women’s lore teacher and elder, achieve her vision of a sustainable food forest retreat.

The food forest retreat will create a base for Minmia's teachings which is so needed now that health challenges (including her ongoing recovery from a double mastectomy from breast cancer) mean that travelling and manual working are much more difficult for her. 

Some of the important things that we want to fundraise for include: 
* A golf buggy which will help her access her property, save her energy and health
*Installing insulation in existing buildings so that it is warm enough for Minmia to live there over winter without her health being affected
* Solar power and equipment
* Completing the bath house
* Building a workshop
* Clearing more land so that the food forest can be expanded
* Investing in food forest plants

Minmia's workshops in traditional women's lore of the Wirradjirri people have helped so many women, from many cultural backgrounds, feel more connected to themselves, each other and Mother Earth.  She also travels and initiates Indigenous adolescent girls in rural and outback New South Wales. This is incredibly important because initiation empowers those girls to move into adulthood feeling connected with culture. 

Cancer has not surprisingly slowed Minmia down but she is still so focused to keep going no matter what.  We want to help her focus on conserving her energy and health so she can keep teaching, writing and initiating.
