Grow Bailonga’s Tango Community

Do you know how very lucky we are to have such a dedicated tango community in Eugene, Oregon? It’s rare for a town as small as ours to have the opportunities to dance to live music from Argentina and to host internationally renowned instructors. We get these chances because our community has nurtured tango, opened our doors to newcomers, and created a safe space for diverse people to come together. Now we need our community to nurture itself so we can continue to thrive.

Our weekly tango event, Bailonga is not just a host of regular alternative tango events. We are also a fun, casual event that values inclusivity and experimentation. Our combination of alternative and traditional music reflects the wide age range of ages and experience levels in our community.

Many people have shared how dearly they love Bailonga, how important it is to the community, and how much they want tango in Eugene to thrive. So we decided to make it possible for everyone to contribute with an online fundraiser. You can support Bailonga and the future of the tango community right here! Whether or not you can make it out to dance with us regularly, you can further our mission to help Eugene tango flourish.

What the Funds Are For

Since raising the price of entry at Bailonga, we've become financially stable, but we want our tango community to do more than survive. We want to grow and thrive, so we can keep offering you well-respected instructors, musicians, DJs, and new opportunities to dance! To do that, we need to do some fundraising. All money raised on behalf of Bailonga will be invested back into the tango community. We run like a non-profit, and any money we make is always put toward future endeavors and supporting the community.

Here is how we will spend your contributions from this fundraiser:

1.     Hiring a graphic designer to create fliers and branding

2.     Paying for large quantities of high-quality fliers

3.     Consistent online marketing for Bailonga weekly dances

4.     Online marketing for special events

5.     Funds to orchestrate poster distribution

And let’s not forget:

6.     A celebration party if we meet all our fundraising goals!

Here’s how focusing on marketing will enrich the tango community:

It brings in new people, particularly from younger age groups, which enlarges the community as a whole, increasing attendance for everyone's dances. New people means new energy, more potential organizers, and more potential milongas (tango dances). New people means more financial resources to bring in well-respected instructors, DJ's, and musicians from out of town. New people means a varied and rich community that can continue to carry tango in Eugene for years to come!

Online marketing, in particular, has become very important in recent years. Many people no longer look at flyers posted on bulletin boards but will notice an interesting Facebook event. We can reach new people more efficiently and effectively if we can increase our online marketing.

Who We Are

Bailonga is a volunteer-run organization that relies completely on the help of the community that attends it. Our focus on a casual approach to tango, drop in beginner classes, and modern music makes it a great place for people to start their tango journeys. Our wide range of music styles and playful atmosphere create a wonderful opportunity for advanced dancers to try out new moves and have some fun.

Our mission is to be the beginning of as many tango addictions as possible and to harbor a community of caring, safe, and creative people who are connected by the dance that they love.

Our Story

Bailonga started out in 2006 as a one-time fundraiser that grew into one of many milongas hosted at the Eugene Tango Center, organized by several tango community members. In its first years, it was devoted to exclusively alternative tango music and focused on providing opportunities for local musicians to perform music for tango dancers.

In the years since, the community has shifted and changed and Bailonga is now the only tango event in Eugene to play half alternative, half traditional music. We have also hosted internationally acclaimed tango musicians for live music on multiple occasions.

This fundraiser was completed at a dance event on October 16th, and boy was it a success!

Between online donations, in person, the silent auction, and other fundraising efforts we raised a grand total of...

$1,191!

If you're counting, that's $341 MORE than our goal! We are going to be able to go above and beyond the plans we had for the money and really make the most of this community's generosity.

A HUGE resounding thank you to every single person who helped make this fundraiser so successful. To everyone who solicited donations, assisted with creating the campaign, volunteered at the event, helped with set up and take down, bought supplies, donated items to the silent auction, donated money, came and danced at Bailonga last night, and even shared our campaign on social media, thank you so so much for contributing to a cause that will hopefully make my dreams for the tango community come true.
