Gregor, Miscarriages and IVF

My name is Nikki Kluting and my husband is Steve Kluting, Jr.  Please take the time to read our story and share the information with others that you know.

Our son, Gregor, was conceived on our honeymoon in October 2014 and we were overjoyed with the news. On February 11, 2015, when I was 19.5 weeks, we went in to find out the gender of our precious baby.  Instead of receiving the exciting news on what our little bundle of joy was going to be, we were bombarded with the news that my amniotic fluid was extremely low. I was admitted to the local hospital and that was the beginning of testing/procedures.  My OB, Dr. Jonathan Egly, referred me to a Maternal Fetal Medical Specialist (MFM) in San Antonio, TX, which is over an hour away from our home.  Our first appointment with the MFM was on February 13, 2015.  It was determined that our baby was small but had a very strong heart.  February 16 I had an amniocentesis procedure done to test for chromosomal issue.  Since then all testing and lab work has come back as negative for anything being "wrong" with our baby besides he's small and my amniotic fluid is extremely low.  He tested negative for any mental retardation and other possible diseases.  We were told that it most likely was a placental issue and that our son would pass away in the womb and that I would need to deliver him stillborn.  March 9 rolled around and our son further stumped the doctor's because he had grown much more than they expected. The doctors are desperately trying to find out why the amniotic fluid is so low because they state that medically there has to be a reason and every possibility hasn't been right up to this point.  They are scheduling further tests to see if he possibly has a highly rare disease called Renal Tubular Dysgenesis.  I will have an MRI done and then my husband and I will possibly have genetic testing done.  This disease cannot be diagnosed until after our son is born.  Right now we have no idea what is going to happen.  Will our son be born without any issues but just small and need to be in a NICU?  Will he pass away after birth and we will need to plan a funeral?  We do not have any answers and will not have any until after he is born.  I am going into my 24th week of pregnancy and my son is kicking away letting me know he is strong.  He is a healthy baby boy, with a strong heart pumping away, and we need to find out what is wrong with him and if he is going to survive.

My husband and I both work full time and have health insurance, but it is already proving to not cover MANY items.  We are both extremely grateful that we have employers that understand our situation and we do not have that added stressor. We both miss some work every week (neither of us have sick leave or PTO)  going to doctor's appointments, which are over an hour away.  Missing pay, extra gas, medical bills, and medication bills are already astronomical and in the scheme of everything this is just the beginning.   Our family and friends suggested we set up an account for those that wish to contribute and help in this situation.  Any donation is truly everything at this time.  We are thankful to have each other, supportive loving friends, and an amazing family.
