Green Bandana Project

We are a campus student group known as YOUmatter at Minnesota State University of Mankato. We are a group of passionate individuals whom hope to better mental health resources on our campus and in our community, promote help seeking behaviors among our peers, and prevent suicide among young adults.

            There are more than 1,000 suicides on college campuses annually in the United States and before graduation, 1 in 10 students will have considered suicide. These staggering statistics are the reality of college students today, but we refuse to let it be the reality of students on our campus!

            This semester we are launching a campaign called The Bandana Project, a mental health/suicide prevention initiative designed to spread awareness of available resources for individuals with mental health concerns. It is simple and easy. Students tie a lime green bandana onto their backpacks and carry resource cards with them that can be distributed among their peers. These bandanas are a silent display of support for individuals struggling as well as an indicator that the carrier is knowledgeable about community resources.

            I am writing to not only educate you on our mission, but to ask for your support. A donation of only $10 provides the resources to equip 20 students on the MNSU campus with bandanas and resource cards to potentially save the lives of struggling college students.

           Our first campus outreach and distribution event is April 16th-18th, 2018. Each and every dollar received will be put directly into spreading the mission of The Bandana Project on the MNSU campus and we hope to have your support.
