Greek Week 2019

From February 24th to March 1st, the University of Miami will be hosting its annual “Greek Week.” Greek Week is a weeklong philanthropic event where the Fraternity and Sorority chapters on campus participate in friendly competition to raise money and awareness for our philanthropy, It’s On Us. Boasting over 2,500 students in our 29 fraternities and sororities, the Greek community prides itself on having strong chapter GPAs along with being heavily involved in leadership involvement, extracurricular activities, and philanthropic work. While being a member of a Greek organization, many of our students are leaders on campus in and out of the classroom. Greeks are involved in all aspects of university life from researching disease treatments to being members of Student Government.

It’s On Us is a national movement to end sexual assault and was launched in September 2014. The campaign was launched following recommendations from the White House Task Force to Prevent Sexual Assault that noted the importance of engaging everyone in the conversation to end sexual violence. It’s On Us asks everyone – students, community leaders, parents, organizations, and companies – to step up and realize that the conversation changes with us. It’s a rallying cry to be a part of the solution. The campaign combines innovative creative content and grassroots organizing techniques to spark conversation on a national and local level. Over the past two years, almost 300,000 people have taken a stand against sexual violence by taking the It’s On Us pledge. The campaign works with 95 partners and students on over 500 campuses.

Any monetary donation goes directly towards the efforts to end sexual violence. One third of the proceeds will be donated to the national It’s On Us organization. One third of the proceeds will be donated to the University of Miami It’s On Us chapter - to benefit programming and educational efforts. Lastly, one third of the proceeds will be donated to the Kristi House, a local organization in Miami. ​Kristi House provides treatment, advocacy, and coordination of services, within a healing environment, for all child victims of abuse and their families, as well as education and prevention services to end childhood abuse and sex trafficking. ​Your support will undoubtedly enhance the mission of ending sexual abuse, specifically on college campuses.
