Grayson County Summer Stage is a four week summer performing arts program located in an underserved rural area in Appalachia. Its mission is to empower youth to develop personally and artistically through participation in outstanding theatrical shows and to share their talents with the community. Students learn life lessons and make lasting memories as they learn to sing, dance, act, and create their own props, costumes, and scenery.
Grayson County Summer Stage provides a supportive, creative environment for young people (ages 9-16) to expand their horizons and discover new talents. Many have never performed in a play or musical. Young actors from the region develop a passion for the arts, find their voice, and connect to their community.
Although we are a small community in Appalachia, we too have big dreams. All monies raised will go towards creating a permanent, much-needed, quality arts intensive for the youth of Grayson County, Virginia. In order to maximize outreach we have partnered with Grayson County 4-H and Grayson County Administration.
Vicky Town is a teaching artist, playwright, and professional storyteller who has been choreographing, directing, and producing musicals and dramas with youth for over 30 years.
National awards include two Parents’ Choice Awards for her storytelling recordings. Her Philadelphia regional teaching and performing honors include the Phyllis S. Larsen Friend of the Library Award from Delaware County Library System and To Fill The World With Love Award from Upper Darby Summer Stage.
She and her husband moved to the Appalachian region in hopes of bringing more performing arts to the young people of the area. “Funding often goes to large cities. The young people of Appalachia must not be forgotten. They need the same opportunity to discover their talents and passion for the arts.”
