Gray Family Fundraiser

I talk quite a bit about community and how it affects our daily lives. It’s more than just the local coffee shops and businesses we frequent. It’s also the groups that make up our daily lives. Little leagues, soccer teams, boys and girls scouts for the kids. A huge part of our community is the activities involving our fine schools. We are lucky to have wonderful schools and many organizations that fill our lives with great excitement and joy. I am blessed to be a coach with many outstanding young people on our proud high school cross country teams.

Recently, one of our members, Sanaa Gray, lost her father to a sudden heart attack. Sanaa was having a terrific season. New to the sport, she improved dramatically as the season wore on and became our top freshman runner. On a hot difficult day at the famous Mt Sac Invitational, she ran a courageous race, finishing among the top runners. She succumbed to the heat and collapsed in the finish area due to heat exhaustion. It was outside the medical tent that I met with her parents and discussed her condition and how proud the coaching staff and the team were of her progress as an athlete and teammate. Her father, a former athlete, appreciated our talk and expressed how proud he was as well.  It would be three days later that he would suffer a heart attack at work and pass away at the hospital.

This a wonderful family that is struggling to move forward with a very uncertain future. They have been living temporarily in a hotel with the pain to return home being too much too bear. The family is clearly grieving and our cross country team wants to help.

It is times like this where we have an opportunity to help, to make a direct impact. If we, as a community, can make a small donation to give this family a new start, it will have a profound effect on their shattered lives. Sanaa is one of our daughters and a part of our wonderful community. Many of our team members families have asked how they can help. This is one way to reach out to this wonderful family. Any donation, large or small, would be appreciated.
