Adult figure skating team going to nationals

Donation protected
Theater on Ice is a branch of US Figure Skating which allows individual spotlights within a team production. I have been skating in Theater on Ice and Showcase Production teams since 2014. At the 2014 competition my team placed 4th. Since that time my team, Ballyhoo Ice Theatre, has struggled to retain members sometimes unable to gather together the required 8 members to create a team. However, this year we have a strong team with 16 people heading to the national competition. We even had the opportunity to skate at Four Continents Cup in Anaheim, CA for the opening ceremonies. We skated in a combined kids & adult Ballyhoo team to some music from The Greatest Showman. I was actually part of an international skating competition... at 50+ how often will that happen???

I am also an individual skater, Adult Bronze level, and continue to practice those individual jump, spin, and footwork skills. My personal skating accomplishments include many individual awards at local competitions and in 2017 I won the Adult Bronze Light Entertainment competition at USFSA National Showcase competition in Santa Rosa, CA. For those who don't know... Santa Rosa was the hometown for Charles Schultz so the rink (at which he skated) has permission to use the Peanuts characters. So, I have a National USFSA medal with Snoopy on it!

This year my team is heading to National Theater on Ice in Birmingham, Alabama June 23. Last year we skated to Spamalot. This year we're using music from Queen to create a story of animals in shelters find their families. The funds will be used to pay for round trip airfare ($478) to Birmingham from LA, hotel and transportation in Birmingham ($475), and food. There's also the last month of team dues ($95). All these expenses will be due after we come back... around July 8th.

I am a School Psychologist in the LA area working for a small non-profit charter school  with 3 campuses in Crenshaw (basically South Central LA), Compton, and Inglewood. My students have plenty of problems! Skating is my way of relaxing and staying fit.
